DIN union ("Deutsches Institut für Normung", which means "German institute for Standardization) are fabricated complying with DIN 11851 standard.  A union comprises of a round nut (4 slot/6 slot), a weld liner, a weld male and a o-ring seal.  

It permits to disconnect without interfering with other pipe work, easy to disassemble for cleaning, repairing and replacement.
